Wallpaper Off, Walls Painted, One Visit
Wallpaper comes off harder than most people expect. Underneath you usually find adhesive, torn drywall paper, or plaster that hasn't been touched since the paper went up.
We handle all of it, so you're not hiring three trades to finish one room.
How we take it off
Every job starts the same way. We peel back a corner and see what we're dealing with.
Strippable vinyl comes off in sheets. Older paper, or paper hung straight onto unprimed drywall, has to be scored, soaked, and worked off in pieces.
Then the walls get washed. Leftover adhesive telegraphs through fresh paint, so this step isn't optional — it's most of the labor on the job.
What changes the price
-
How many layers are up there
-
Whether the drywall was primed before the paper was hung
-
Paper type — vinyl, foil, grasscloth, or old pulp
-
Wall condition once it's exposed
-
Ceiling height, and how much trim has to be cut in
We quote after we see it. A photo of one corner peeled back tells us more than a phone description will.
Older homes
A lot of houses in Lockport, Joliet, and Frankfort have plaster behind the paper, not drywall. Plaster takes a different approach — more steam, less scraping, and repairs that need to cure before primer goes on.
Older walls also tend to hide more than one layer. We plan for that instead of finding out on day two.
The walls underneath
Removal almost always leaves damage. Torn face paper, gouges, old patchwork that was hiding under the pattern.
We skim, sand, and prime to a paint-ready surface before any color goes on.
We remove wallpaper. We don't hang it.
We take paper off and paint what's behind it. We don't install new wallpaper.
If that's what you're after, tell us when you call and we'll save you the trip.
How our painting process works
1. Free walkthrough
We come out, look at the actual rooms or the actual siding, and talk through colors and sheen. Usually thirty to forty-five minutes.
2. Written estimate
You get an itemized price, normally within twenty-four hours. Take your time with it.
3. We paint, then you inspect
Floors and furniture covered, prep done properly, then paint. Before we load the truck we walk the job with you and fix anything you point at.
